Stonington Light

Larger View
Stonington Light was painted in 1989 when I lived in Westerly, Rhode Island.
I wanted to convey the special quality of coastal light. Sea air holds the sunlight and brightens even the deepest shadows. I also wanted to create an analogy between the lighthouse and a church.
In 2007 I repainted the image on a larger scale, improved by almost twenty years of experience as a painter.
The actual lighthouse no longer warns and welcomes seafarers. It is now a small gem of a museum on the Connecticut coast. |
