Awake

Larger View
This is historic Daggett House from Slater Park in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. I often use it as a metaphor for my childhood years.
I got there before sunrise on a day in early Spring and waited with my camera. I wanted a picture of fresh sunlight on a pure white house in a still-dark landscape.
Part of the house is shrouded in sleep, and part is coming awake. Despite the vivid colors and strong, almost storybook-style definition, the image conveys an undertone of sadness, the feeling of a childhood lost.
